New ReviewerI was told upon opening the account there would be no cancellation fee. I get ready to cancel and they tell me there is a buy-out fee.
Are you kidding me, that's a cancellation fee. They just took the yearly membership fee, my monthly fee, and I haven't been in two months and now you want more money. Money you claimed I didn't have to pay at first. I feel this totally ridiculous.
Oh, and did I mention these suckers charge taxes on fees. I have never been with a gym that charges a tax on your fees due. Who does that? Oh, I know, PLANET FITNESS.
I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone. THEY ARE A SET OF LIARS AND MONEY_LIFTERS.
The young lady I spoke with is supposed to speak with her manager and call me back. I will keep you updated on what happens.
Reason of review: Veracity.
Monetary Loss: $200.
Preferred solution: To be let out of myu contract without a buyout fee beacuse it was not discussed in the beginning. I'm not asking for the months I haven't been there nor the yearly fee eventhough I haven't been there. .
Planet Fitness Pros: Most of the equipment.
Planet Fitness Cons: No classes and the buyout fee.
Location: Houston, Texas

I don't get these complaints. All of your fees are discussed upfront.
They are right in the agreement. It's total BS that you find out now.
You don't even know which membership you have.
This has really intrigued me! It is genuine to figure out and learning in the great manner. Appreciated work!

Bad news at the end i'm afraid.
Sounds like you had a Black Card membership. Only the $10 monthly is month to month initially and free cancellation from the start.
The black card requires a 12 month commitment. During the first 12 months, there is always a fee to cancel. After the 12 month committment is satisfied, then the $58 buyout fee is not applicable.
(some clubs may offer additional options like $15 monthly
Don't blame Planet Fitness for the taxes, they don't keep them, that's state and local and law.
But it sounds to me that you either did not pay attention when toy signed up because the buyout is covered over the phone when asked and in person when you sign up. If you signed up online, you have to check the box that tells you the particulars that thou skipped over.
Sorry, outs no their fault that you did not read, and/or did not listen, but when it comes to the fees, this information IF NOT IN ANY FINE PRINT! It's totally up front. Sheesh!
Looked at your agreement copy, scratch that, READ your agreement copy. Line 1-.monthly dues, within and how much, Line 2, when and how to cancel, and terms if any. Line 3, Annual Fee, date charged ans cancellation rules. Line 4, Service Fee in the event your dues can't be auto drafted.
Its so simple, maybe too simple becaue it seems not pass the m0r0n test.
It's a legal agreement over 5 million members are happy with. But be very sad to learn that there are at least 5 million people smarter, with more common sense, than you.
