Very disappointed with what I just encountered with an employee at Planet Fitness. I have been a member for the past year +.

I am a school teacher out on summer break who spends the summer with family. I have no one to watch my 9 year old son and so I decided to take him to the gym with me, only because during my time at planet fitness, I have seen other members do it. I have even saw children in the gym area at 5am in the morning. The employee told me I wasn't allowed to bring him and so I had to leave the gym missing my workout.

My issue is, if this is policy then ALL employee should abide to the policy. Also, I came home to read their policy and find there are SEVERAL things that are not abiding by.

I would have respected her telling me no if I didn't see other members doing the exact thing I was trying to do. #CancelledMembership

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

For insurance reasons, as well as babysitting reasons, no one under age 13 is permitted. Granted, some 13 year olds look like they are 9, some 13 year olds tragically look like they are 19.

It's very good that the staff was being rules compliant when you brought your minor with you.

No matter how well behaved your 9 year old is, this just can't happen. Whether the minor is with you, or sitting in the waiting room, staff cannot be caresitters.

Perhaps younger children were with those who were touring the club, or came in to sign up. These are rare cases and insurance covers this as a temporary situation.

Also yes many parents lie about their child's age.

Many clubs request a birth certificate as proof of the minors age, many clubs take the word of the parent/guardian. Should a parent lie and an accident befall the child, the club has proof of the deception and is not liable.

The club, however, would prefer not to be in that situation. To the parent who tells the truth about the childs age is an honorable parent raising a child with awesome values.

The other kind of parent is raising a child who lies.

Your honesty is very much appreciated. 13 is still the minimum age for a membership or guest.
