I was a member in Seattle, WA for many months, then was diagnosed with cancer and moved to NJ for treatment. I called to try to cancel my membership, which I signed up for online, and was told that it could only be done by certified letter.

I explained my circumstance, that getting a certified letter was extremely difficult for me, and asked if I could cancel either by phone or email.

I was flatly turned down, no sympathy, no flexibility. I will definitely contact YELP and let others know to avoid Planet Fitness in the future do to their self-serving, inhumane cancelation policy.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

Planet Fitness Cons: She should not have a job in customer service, Way they are stealing money from me.

Location: Flemington, New Jersey

And then you moved to nj... overnight?

I'm sure you took care of other duties before you moved, you could have taken care of pf as well. The diagnosis aside, but i agree, thru a phone call, how are they supposed to know?

And even if you provided proof of the diagnosis date, and then a month later you moved., within that time you had to close other accounts, so please don't use your diagnosis as a cry for pity. Ive been there too, and i took care of my affairs.

This advice creates service fees and a potential huge back balance. The member risks collections.

A $4 certified letter vs. Possible several hundred dollars owed and against your credit is an easy decision.

Anyone giving your type of advice probably has lousy credit and can't balance a checkbook.

How are they supposed to know you are being truthful? Listen, if you can get out to do shopping, or get to the doctor, you can get out to mail a letter.

I'm sure that not all of your time is being spent on treatment.

I realize this may sound harsh, and I'm sorry for your diagnosis, but a simple letter is not a huge sacrifice of time and resources. And since its a simple letter, I'm sure that a friend could have mailed it for you.

I assume you gave them your card info so they are charging you automatically. Your best remedy is to cancel the card so they have nothing to charge to. Get another credit card from a different issuer.
