I joined Planet Fitness based upon what my needs are when it comes to staying in shape. For the most part I use the treadmill for warm up, and then I hit the free weights. Other days I use the treadmill for cardio only.

I discovered the yoga and bosu balls when I worked with my personal trainer at a previous gym I used to belong to. I found these tools to be great for working on core strength while I used the free-weights. I trusted that Planet Fitness just like the other gyms I have belonged to, that they have all their equipment’s in order and that they are kept up, but unfortunately that was not so.

Perhaps I was spoiled from the previous gym with expecting a great workout with well-kept up equipment. Everything went fine until I was going to use my favorite tools, the yoga balls. They were all uninflated. I thought, oh well I can mention it to the front desk, and perhaps they’ll take care of it. I showed up for my workout several times, and each time I asked if they would be so kind to fill air in the yoga balls so I can use them. I finally got so frustrated that I asked if they had an air pump, so I could fill air in the yoga and bosu balls myself. I was frustrated and I was thinking that I missed my other gym. After that day I got so discouraged about my work out that I didn't go back in a while.

When I saw that I was charged a 45 dollars yearly fee, I got angry. I thought I was paying for a badly kept-up gym. I called the corporate office and told them how I felt and asked if I could be refunded since I have barely shoved up at the gym. They said no way, but that they would look into the situation with the bosu and yoga balls.

To cancel my member ship I had to go back to the gym in person where I was charged an additional 59 dollars canceling fee. They asked me why I wanted to cancel and when I told them why, they used their ridiculous motto “The judgment free zone” as an excuse for not keeping their yoga and bosu ball inflated.

I know that uninflated bosu and yoga balls aren't the worst that can happen, but I did join the gym based upon what I saw and on my previous experience of how great these tools are for a great workout. Moneywise it wasn't a great loss, but this isn't about money. My complaint is about not keeping up on their part when it comes to keeping their fitness equipment’s in shape, since I made a business decision based upon what I saw when I joined. My complaint is also about how rude and unprofessional the management was when I stated my complaint.

What I got out of this is that you get what you pay for. I was paying a lot of money at a previous gym I used to belong to, at Sports and Wellness, but then again, they were great. I know that no place is perfect, but nobody likes badly kept-up fitness equipment at a gym. My advice to people are, stay far away from Planet Fitness, and pay the extra money for better quality in both, management and, safely kept-up fitness equipment and gear, at a better quality gym.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $120.

Preferred solution: Price reduction.

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Since I guarantee that corporate DID NOT SAY "No Way", I will also guarantee that the response for not inflating balls was not "judgement free zone". Stability balls, unfortunately deflated.

Usually the fitness instructor keeps up with them, not the staff. Perhaps you were there when the FI was not. In all clubs, whether Planet Fitness, or other clubs, there are always occasions when equipment is down, hopefully, not for long.

Wear and tear happens. But to cancel a membership over the lack of a $15 ball when you are in a $2 million club full of awesome equipment and free weights is just plain........

I don’t think you got what I was hinting at in my message, but it’s OK. Don’t feel bad because you belong to, or work at a lame gym.

It was not really about fitness balls etc. It was about the fitness instructor taking too long, as well as taking no time with upkeep of equipment’s. It was also about Planet Fitness staff and management sleeping on the job. I wish I had read all the bad reviews about this gym before I joined.

After I canceled my membership with Planet Fitness, I joined another gym I used to belong to in the past.

I told them my story and they felt bad for me, and gave me the first month free, which was an offer I could not refuse :) And when I told one of my friends what had happened, she said… “I told you so, I told you Planet Fitness is not a real gym” and I agree.

Hmm, an obvious self described clueless lunk.

I get a kick out of those who say that planet fitness is not a real gym.

You seem to think that all gyms should be for body builders and toners. Why can't there be gyms for first time users, those ofmany ages who need a place to start, who need a place to because their doctor said so, who need a place where they may not get super toned, but they will work out to get stronger and do cardio. When people come out of the woodwork and go out of their way to to put this place down all I see are lunks, lunks, lunks who are so in love with their own selves that they forget that one size does not fit all. You are just plain mad because your kind of fun costs more and cheaper guns don't have what you want.

Buddy, that's why there are choices! That's why there's a weight limit at the place because there are people who may need more, so you go to a place where they give you more, and for more, you will pay more, it's that simple. I like my gym, I like my fitness level, I don't want to go to a lunky gym where all I see is guys staring at themselves grunting up a storm, high giving, dropping weights, and being loud. There's a,place for you and a place for me.

Plus, these gyms are independently owned and operated, like no two Subways are the same, so you can't lump all locations together.

Of course there are places that are superior, and those that need attention, some even serious corporate attention. These need to be reported directly to corporate (for any franchise) to make them better because it's a failure to comply with a /the franchise agreement. All franchise locations of any company get inspected throughout the year to ensure certain standards of doing business.

All that said and I'll bring you down to this, it's $10 a month, roughly $.33 a day.

You are not paying a hundred a month with towel service, steam rooms, a pool and ball court. It provides basic equipment with instruction, showers and a few pretty good amenities to make the Black Card appealing and worth keeping. Neck, $20 a month for a daily massage is awesome, plus tanning if I want, plus I can bring my husband as a guest anytime I come in. We will never be toned, but we've gotten stronger, have more endurance, don't pant when we climb hills, gotten great results on doctor's tests.

I don't give a hoot that you don't like my gym, it bothers me that , in this fat nation, your kind of people actively discourage people who need to workout from working out because your fat meatball brains just don't get the difference between beginners and advanced. Just shut it and go find a place that caters to you and leave me with my place that caters to me.

No, not really, I don’t think all gym should be for bodybuilders only; it would defeat the purpose that health and well being is for everybody, in other words, different strokes for different folks :)

There are many great gyms out there and some target bodybuilders, and then there are gyms that target the rest of us. Planet Fitness is quiet clever actually.

Just like all corporations/businesses, Planet Fitness has their own business strategy that focuses mainly on a certain population, if you wondering which population, you only need to look at their commercials LOL. Anyway, I am not going to say more about that :)

My real reason for upset was this, and I am going to say it again, “I know that uninflated bosu and yoga balls aren't the worst that can happen, but I did join the gym based upon what I saw and on my previous experience of how great these tools are for a great workout. Moneywise it wasn't a great loss, but this isn't about money. My complaint is about not keeping up on their part when it comes to keeping their fitness equipment’s in shape, since I made a business decision based upon what I saw when I joined.

My complaint is also about how rude and unprofessional the management was when I stated my complaint.”

With this said, I am done having conversations with people on this site who work at, and who are members of planet fitness, especially since this is a case for Better Business Bureau. In any case, enjoy your workout at a gym you love, I know I am. I know I am very satisfied with the gym I decided to rejoin after had been a member for two years in the past. And no, it is not a bodybuilder’s gym, but a gym for everyone.

I could probably go on and on why I like my gym, but that review is for another website. Thank you.
