1. There is no accountabilty for PF operations. PERIOD. They prey on the weak. On the first day you give PF your credit card/checking account they are free to bill you til you die and nothing you can do to stop them. They don't follow their own written policy. That is how the company is set up - they make money by deliberately scamming. Corporate offices refuses to talk to any member about ANYTHING. The info@***.com does not answer questions. The regional director if they even exist have no name, no email and no phone.

2.PF Location Employees - Any figurehead at the local PF is a mimimum wage employee or barely above a mimimum wage employees. An employee may be educated and good at their job, but there is no future with the company. They are not trained to handle any 'issues' and if they do 'try to help' the company doesn't stand behind them. It is like talking to a brick wall.

3. TOTAL IMPERSONALIZATION Planet Fitness, as is McDonalds, Domino's Pizza, Walmart focus on getting their money from low income patrons. They know a poor person will not have the resources to fight their corporate corruption (or apathy?) PF can do whatever they want and they do.

4. The Corporate mindset is they don't care what happens. They have no ethics, they never did. As a member while at the gym if you see discrimination, a health code violation, aggressive or 'uncomfortable' interactions there is no geniune way to get it settled. No one at the company will respond to get any problem solved. There is no accountability.

Basically PF operates solely to get unlimited access to your financial information and then won't let you close the membership until it suits them. Any pretense of requiring written notication, certified letters, the closing in advance of the 10th of the month . . . is a scam. They do not respond to or do anything even if you follow their request to cancel exactly. How this company has not been hit with felony scam charges by any State Attorney General I cannot imagine. STAY AWAY. Any real gym membership will cost more than $10 month. Planet Fitness is set up to to steal from the uninformed, uneducated and the poor. And that they do very well.

Reason of review: Unethical/Fraudulent operations.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Planet Fitness Pros: Location.

Planet Fitness Cons: Billing practices, No notification, Customer service.

Location: Michigan, United States

DIRECTLY FROM THEIR WEBSITE: To cancel your monthly membership and stop the billing of the Monthly Membership Fee on or around the 17th of the month, the club must receive written notification delivered to the club on or before the 10th of the month either in person or preferably via certified mail to the club address. Please note it may take up to seven (7) business days for any membership or billing changes to take effect.

In order to cancel your membership prior to the billing of the Annual Membership Fee, the club requires written notice delivered as described above on or before the 25th of the month before such billing.

FROM ME: A Black Card Membership requires a 12 month commitment in which case there is an early cancel fee of $58 (some locales must charge tax).

When you signed up, you signed an agreement binding for both sides. if you followed the agreement and gave your notice of cancellation, you have a receipt, that receipt is YOUR proof for any kind of refund due you and will be honored by Planet Fitness. I can confirm that corporate office do take your issue very seriously and absolutely do not want these kind of issues at any PF. Having worked at a PF sine 18 months a bit ago, we got in trouble for not being on top of things.

So really, if you followed procedure, have the receipt, cancelled by the appropriate deadlines, you have contract law and corporate on your side.

As for the staff being untrained, there I will agree with you.

The pay is squat with all they want you to learn and what you have to put up with, $8/hr is ridiculous, and you'll never go above $8.50. Very very few staff move up, so it's dead end, but when jobs are scarce, you take what you can get. I really liked working at mine, great bunch of people, great manager, and they always tried to make us better at customer service, but eventually better paying jobs do come along and you have to leave, and for $8 an hour, it's difficult to find anyone to hire who is exceptional because they laugh at what what you are offering. Now if they started at $9/hr, there world be a bigger pool of prospects to choose from.

And that's just staff. Managers don't get paid too much more above that and have tons more responsibility, even they burn out fast.

But again, all that aside, the corporate side wants perfection. So head for the website and put in a member survey. THEY WILL READ IT, and they will research and analyze and determine based on the facts and dates and someone should contact you.

I wish I could help with more.

They have over six million members nationwide, and these kind of issues they do not want to happen and are not rampant either, cuz if true there would be an explosion of complaints. Instead they are more isolated, and unfortunately the canceling complaining member is almost always wrong, and I write this based on experience where the verifiable facts (DATES) confirm member error probably 95% of the time.
