Planet fitness refused to let me cancel my membership and continued charging me for the last 10 months while the marine corps has me stationed half way around the world. They refused to let my dad cancel my membership for me without a stack of paperwork showing my active duty status and where I was stationed.

I got a two week leave block for the holidays and have to take time away from my family and friends that I haven't seen in almost a year to go in and terminate my membership in person.

Thank you planet fitness for helping out your military service members when they need your help. Cheers.

Lots of idiots on here...It is a privilege to join a gym, any gym that is...NOT a right! By doing so (joining a gym) you agree to THEIR cancellation policy, billing policy, among other things when you sign your name on the *** line, even if you don't like it now that it's a hassle for you to cancel, you still have to act in accordance with it if you want your cancellation actually done...

In that case, If you cannot abide by the policy that you originally agreed to, then you have reaped what you've sown. I agree planet fitness makes it a hassle to cancel if you're in the military. So don't sign up there if you cant make the reasonable accommodation to send a certified letter to cancel your membership, or to go in in person which takes no more than 5 minutes to cancel (assuming you don't have a whole bunch of dues owed, and need an explaination on you having no funds in your account on the 17th when they should have billed you, that you agreed to...remember...?)

The bottom line is, know what youre agreeing to, and if you don't agree...DONT SIGN UP THERE AND FIND A BETTER GYM, which there are numerous of for roughly the same price.

Excuse me? We signed up because we wanted to work out and I didn't know my husband wanted to go into the army.

So first of all, back the *** Don't call any idiots if you decide to do something like go into the army unexpectedly cause no it's not your fault and not your husbands. He's doing it for us. Yes, we sign the contract but US LEAVING TO GET STATIONED TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY IS NOT OUR FAULT AND WE SHOULDN'T GET A PENALTY FOR THAT BECAUSE I DON'T SEE THEM OUT THERE SERVING THE UNITED STATES. *** happens and if you can't see that then your blind.

It shouldn't be a hassle to close an account and to not have to pay the fee since theres laws behind all this. I will make sure I find them for you.

I joined PF a few months ago and was turned on by the 29.00 black membership instead of the 10.00 a month membership. PF take the money out of your account automatically(ACH) withdraw unless you come up with $200+ for the year.

So here is the issue. If the money is not in the account, PF will Keep taking out the money until they get it, which is fine, but if the money is not in the account, the bank will charge you $32 for not having the money in there. So, thus far this month, I owe $120 in NSF charges from my bank. I put a stop payment on my account to prevent this from happening, but PF uses many ID numbers to get the money so the attempt was moot on my part and was charged again, Thankfully, I had the money in there.

Now to get out of my contract, instead of $58 dollars, I now owe pf $140 plus the $58 just to downgrade. This would be a great gym if they just let me pay on my own every month. There would be no problems.

Just be careful because they will continue to take the money out. regardless of your situation.

Planet Fitness is a joke!

Planet Fitness staff are unqualified minimum wage workers who could care less about your fitness goals. Treadmills are often non-functioning and remain unfixed. Shower and changing rooms are filthy. Especially the floors, you can feel the grit on the bottom of your feet after showering. I wished I had brought an additional towel to stand on while I got dressed. The place is discussing. Last but not least for you tanning enthusiasts; Tanning bed bulbs are rarely replaced. They do not clean the beds, it's a great place to get a fungus infection.

They only want your 19.99 per month and make it near impossible to cancel your membership.

Do yourself a favor, don't fall for it. -steer clear.

To any Employee of that dreaded place called Planet Fitness.

Have ya'll heard of the Sailor and Soldier Act.

Maybe you should read up on that before you try to belittle a fellow Marine. Do you know what goes on before a deployment or any type of movement Probably not.

My gym in the the middle of a war zone had more equipment. And maybe the staff should have a little knowledge of actually working out.

Just an observation here... if I can cancel things like my cell phone service, Comcast/Qwest, and many other services over the phone, why shouldn't I be able to cancel my planet fitness membership over the phone?

It's silly if you ask me. If identity is an issue, then why not ask the employees to verify identity by using DOB, address, etc over the phone? Surely I completed that 2 page questionare/survey for a reason. I ask because I am in the military and we don't always get a whole lot of notice on deployments; especially those of us in rapid deployment units and/or special operations.

There's a million important things service members must do before a deployment that are very time consuming. I myself am deploying very soon and though I have carved out time to cancel my membership, it wasn't easy finding it. Only another service member would understand this. Oh and another thing: they're trying to tell me I owe them $58 in termination fees.

Here's the deal: I'm not deploying by CHOICE. Through not fault of my own I am being deployed for 12 months.

ALL cell phone companies, rental property companies, etc allow for cancelation of a contract so long as orders can be produced. Why doesn't Planet Fitness allow this?

To PF Employee

How very professional of you to argue with ANY customer, military or otherwise.

I will never set foot in any of your sites.

(I know you don't care).

You know that I have read a few of these complaints. To be honest PF employees give these really bad reply's.

I will never join planet fitness because by the response I hear from PF employees.

They really are not the nicest people to deal with and don't care about there clients which without would not make there $7.35 an hour. So I hope you have a great life and keep the sad comments coming.

Which membership did you have/do you have. If it was the Black Card Membership then most likely you had a 12month commitment with you membership which most likely they told you before you signed up or when you signed up.

As for cancelling, no Planet Fitness refuses cancellations unless they are mis-trained. To cancel you membership you do need to come in person or send a certified letter. As for having you dad do it, then yes, in order for somebody else to cancel your membership, they need proof that you cannot be there in person. I apologize if you misread or the employee who signed you did not explain this to you but you were given a copy of you membership agreement which states how to cancel you membership including any commitments or buyout fees.

On a personal note, saying things like "helping out you military service members" is a load of ***. You joined the military hopefully to defend your country not to get recognition.

I'm sick of military service members using them being in the military like they deserve things. Now, I do believe that by serving you should receive certin benefits throughout life and I am grateful for you defending my freedom.

Guest

To duh: it's obvious that you are a planet fitness employee and know nothing about the military... It's ok, you just gave me another reason NEVER to join planet fitness...

Guest

You knew that you were going on Active Duty overseas. You should have made these arrangements before deployment. It was your responsibility and you failed.

They even offered you another way; by turning in proof that you were overseas, and you wouldn't even do that small thing for them.

This is your fault.
