So I've been going to planet fitness for about 2 weeks never missed a payment or anything. I realized that paying $20 a month to go by myself once a week and not even use the special offers they give you was pretty stupid so I thought about quiting.

As soon as I thought that I was at with a $40 annual fee and I've had this membership for about a month and I've only gone like 10 times. So I clearly wanted to cancel after that ridiculous charge being put on so early. Then I realized that if I quit they would just sell my place to some other sucker and make them pay this.

So I tried to quit but you have to send a letter or come to the location that you joined which I think it's ridiculous as *** sorry but I do. As I'm cancelling the screen where you would make a payment if you bought something said $15 and I had no idea what this was for but stupidly I payed it because it was the only way to cancel but when you sign up it says NO COMMITMENT but some how I was charged $15 worth of late fees when I've never been late and it's never said anything like that in my bank statement so basically now they want me to still pay the $40 all I'm saying is that it's a scam and they are making their money of people who just want to work out not to mention what is everything in their gym you can pretty much do at home FOR FREE!

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

Planet Fitness gave me a world of trouble when I tried to cancel. I finally sent them a letter of cancellation via Fedex and made it signature mandatory.

They denied ever receiving said letter and I laughed out loud because the person who said it was the same manager who had signed for the day before. I crossed all my T's and dotted all my I's when I cancelled because my roommate at the time was having her wages garnished by Planet Fitness because they claimed she never cancelled (she had) and her CC had expired. They had taken her to court but she didn't receive any notification. I was in another state on a business trip and went to an LA Fitness.

I told them I was there for just a one time visit, I didn't live there and where I did live, there were no LA Fitness locations. I paid for the one day visit with my credit card. Guess what? Yes, they signed me up for a year's membership!

That was fraud as far as I am concerned. I didn't sign up for a membership, just a one day pass. Despite all that, it was still a nightmare getting it cancelled and my money back. Another example of sleazy gyms: a Gold's Gym in area advertised $500 for a lifetime membership special.

They ran the special for 2 weeks and the owner quietly removed all his equipment one late night and skipped town with hundreds of people's money. I have turned my spare bedroom into a gym and don't have to worry about sleazy gym practices anymore.

Breaking a sweat would do you some good. If that small amount of money inconveniences you, fitness should be a huge part of your life.

That is by far the cheapest gym membership in the country and it has a lot of perks.

It is meant to be a beginner gym. Experienced fitness enthusiast don’t go to Planet Fitness because of their equipment selection and depressing Words on the wall.

My condo gym is being rebuilt, I called Planet Fitness in Selden NY about joining on a limited basis (90 days). I was told twenty cents promotional fee plus ten dollars a month.

Next day I went in to join up, only to be told there is thirty nine dollar fee and they need both credit card and checking account.

This is typical bait and switch maneuver . No intimidation zone is also no business ethics zone.

I was considering joining 1/02/2020 but after seeing the commercial which only mentions $10/month but website says $39 annual fee and reading others complaints i have concluded this company practices deceptive tactics and will not join and will tell others Richard C Brooklyn ny

Definitely a scam I have been cancelling for nearly a year and am some how still being charged even tho I haven’t been in a year.

Cancel your credit card and they lose. Thats it.

All these gyms are disgust scam artists. Work out at home, it's cheaper and cleaner.

I had to pay my bank account $170 because of these people. They said $10 a month no commitment.

My son and I only went once before Christmas 2018.

I'm going to go there and I'm going to create a very big scene. No one helped us with any of the equipment as novices and the place just sucked

what an idiot!!!!

you are all over the place.

Agreements mean you accept the terms.

you have absolutely NOTHING to complain about, except your own stup!dity!

These idiots can't make a sentence, let alone read & comprehend a service agreement. Even with a $39 start up fee, this place is the best bang for your buck.

a lot of what you wrote didn't make sense in the timeline. if you joined in August, your annual fee is in October.

so if you are writing about a recent charge, then you've been a member longer than two weeks.

If you had a 12 month committment membership an early cancellation fee is $58.00.

If you had a No Commitment mem bership, cancellation is free, but you must pat any dues owed upon cancellation. Your receipt would state what you are paying for.

perhaps your September dues were returned uncollected.

in that case you would owe September dues plus your late fee, usually $10.00.

Planet Fitness cannot charge you anything beyond the agreement that you signed. they can't create new charges, that's against the agreement and the law.
